Biographical Information

Naomi Shihab Nye has a B.A. degree summa cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa from Trinity University, San Antonio, 1974. She has received the following awards: current Witter Bynner Fellow for the Library of Congress, Guggenheim Fellowship, I. B. Lavan Award (Academy of American Poets), National Poetry Series winner, three Texas Institute of Letters book prizes, the Jane Addams Award for Children's Literature (twice), The Judy Lopez Memorial Medal for Children's Literature, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award, among others. She lives in San Antonio, Texas. She has edited six prize-winning anthologies of poetry for young readers. Nye says, “Poetry is my breath, map, and friend. Encouraging and collecting the poetry of others is my passion.”
